Why planning doesn’t work

Why Planning.png

I remember staring at a piece of paper full of scribbles and notes. When will I ever start this novel? I had thought to myself. All my plans and ideas I had scribbled on the page were forgotten. So I clicked the button that said: Word 2013 and started typing about my random story characters. I ended up writing a nice short story. That was the first time I realized that planning doesn’t always work.

when you are writing a story, you need to have a plan. But when you over plan, the story process becomes more of a chore. For me, writing is harder when I plan and it’s easier when I come up with an idea and start writing.

Here are some alternatives to planning

Talk to your characters

Have you ever talked to your story characters? I have many times. When I talk to my character, I learn more about her/him. I imagine I’m the friend and they are having a normal conversation. It’s easy and fun to talk to them.

Write random stories about your characters

When writing, you don’t have to always stick with the story. Open up a new page and write a mini story about your character, and how the character handles a certain situation. Then, if you liked the story you can try to add it into you book.

Experiment with other ideas

When writing, try knew things with you charcters. Interveiw your character. Ask them questions. That will help you learn more about them, trust me, it helps.

I hope these tips help!

Introducing; Word War!

Word War.png

Hello, my friends! I am super excited to share with you that today, Word War is starting!

What is Word War?

Word War is a fun way for bloggers and writers to come together and create a 50,000 novel. I came with Word War a few years ago, but I never really put it on any of my websites, (considering my blog was a doll blog). I decided to do it now! Each blogger/writer chooses a team that they want to be on, once each team is even we can start!  The two teams compete against each other, working together as a team to write a novel.

Is there a theme?

Well…yes-but-no. This year’s Theme is Fanasty/Sci-fi but you can really do anything you would like, as long as your chapter lines up with the first chapter.

What do we even do?

I write the pro·logue of the story, so everybody gets an idea what to write, I will choose which team to be on later. Each team uses the same pro·logue, but they cannot copy the other teams’ stories. Each blogger writes a chapter for the story. Here is an example.

Misty Bloggs is at the top of the list so she writes chapter one etc. After each blogger writes a chapter, the next blogger does until we get to the bottom of the list. Then we repeat everything until the story is finished.

Rules;

  • Please don’t have any gory or vulgar content, remember this is for all ages.
  • Do not use God’s name in vain, swear or another suggestive language.
  • Do not copy other bloggers chapters.
  •  Have fun!

  Teams;

Each chapter will be in first person.

The whole Novel deadline is September 10th.
