📖a messy nano WIP 📝

fall hello

Welcome back to my itsy-bitsy corner of the web, today I am going to talk about a dangerous trial called; NANOWRIMO!!! It’s a writing challenge to encourage budding authors but it usually just leaves me burning in failure because I never plan well enough…😓

I am really excited for nano this year, and just a LITTLE STRESSED OUT! *twitches* AND NOW ITS TIME FOR A LITTLE PIECE OF WRITING TO INSPIRE ALL OUR BUDDING AUTHORS 😀

Asher walked into the room in deep thought, wondering why he was even here. With a sigh, he took a seat in the blank room. Almost like the blank page when you start Nanowrimo on November 1st and you have absolutely no idea what to write.

“Hi there Asher, take a seat! Oh, you already have, never mind then” I smiled, waving at the insecure bean.

“Greetings and Salutations.” Asher nodded, feeling a bit nervous. He had never been in an interview before. He started fidgeting with the zipper on his black trenchcoat. It was getting warm in the room so he started to take it off.

“Uh, have you seen Cleo yet?” I asked, hoping not to frighten the anxious boy.

“No, sorry Miss. I haven’t… I don’t really know who Cleo is…” He mumbled, taking off the rest of his coat and sitting it next to him in the empty chair beside him. Then the door burst wide open and a flurry of a human ran in, obviously a mess.

“Sorry, I’m Late!” The girl stammered, nearly dropping everything in her hand. She struggled to stand still, wobbling about and trying to regain balance.

I blinked, trying to conceal a giggle at the poor girl. Two anxious younglings in one day. That was different from the usual. “Are you Cleo?” I asked,”I’m Ava and I will be asking you two a few questions.”

“Yeah! I’m Cleo, sorry about the bad introduction, I was pretty busy this morning and…yeah.” She said, finally taking a seat in the blank white chair.

Asher glanced over at the girl and smiled a bit. “Hi, I’m Asher.” The girl nodded at him and softly smiled.

“Alrighty…” I said, biting my lip and looking over my list.”Just to let you both know, you are in the writing hub. Fictional characters that will soon be developed and sent to the other realities or fictional worlds.”

Asher felt quite confused. He never thought that he was fictional, or made up. He had feelings and thoughts and… he most certainly thought he was real. “Soo… we aren’t human like you?”

I sighed, feeling somewhat confused myself. It was hard to explain how stories and characters were made and it wasn’t often talked about. I had no training in this subject. “Uhhh… It’s hard to explain…I don’t even fully know all of the world’s writing secrets. You’d have to ask the creativity master.” I mumbled.

Cleo hadn’t spoken for a while, but her ears perked when she heard of some master. “Creativity Master?” She thought aloud, unsure if she was truly asking a question or not.

“Nevermind that! On with the questions!” I said, quickly scanning through my paper. Maybe I really wasn’t set out for the amazing role as an author, maybe I should just go back to reading books every day.

maybe I should just quit… and stop dreaming

“Ava?” The room is blurry and I hear people calling my name. I blink and open my eyes to the blank piece of paper facing me. Then I look up out the window facing me above my desk and I see a bird. A little yellow bird trying to fly. It falls at first, but then… it soars. The little bird keeps trying and trying until it can fly so high it touches the clouds.

With a smile on my face, I seize my pencil and begin to write. Because just like the little bird, I will teach myself how to fly.

Wow, that didn’t turn out well.

I mainly posted that because I really wanted to write and I failed. THIS IS WHAT HAPPENS DURING NANO!:P

Writing Wednesdays: Characters

Writing.png

img_3664-2 and Welcome back to my blog!

I’m going to talk about how to make your story characters really come to life! Lets get started.

cropped-vector-watercolor-lavender-delicate-bunch-set-pastel-nature-aromatherapy-elements-herb-garden-plant-48321911cropped-vector-watercolor-lavender-delicate-bunch-set-pastel-nature-aromatherapy-elements-herb-garden-plant-48321911

1. Talk to your characters;

Talking to your characters may sound weird, but it really works! I talk to my characters all the time. Its fun and helps inspire you!

2. Pretend to be your character:

Try to talk in your characters voice. Live as if you were a certain character. Ask your siblings or friends if you can role-play, you can even role-play by yourself. Develop your characters style.

3. Interview your character;

Ask your character questions. Or let someone else ask your character questions

4. Pay attention to the people around you;

Look around everyday at people near by. Sometimes I even look at strangers and see what they are doing, that helps me develop a character and a story.

5. Be creative!

Being creative is not hard. Creative is scribbling random words onto a piece of paper. Creative is you writing a small poem. Creative is you having fun and trying to write! Have fun and don’t worry about messing up. Their is no wrong way to write! Everyone  has their own style. Be yourself and have fun!

Hello Mr. Writer’s Block

Hello Mr.Writer's Block.png

Hello, everyone! Today I am interviewing someone you may know very well. Mr. Writer’s Block. The obnoxious Writer’s Block is entering this post this very second.

Mr. Writer’s Block: Well Hello there. I am happy to be on this post. Oh- and don’t worry, I’ve done a lot of practicing. 😉

Ava:*Glares* Well… as long as you don’t ruin this post, then I will be fine.

MWB: Okay, sure I definitely won’t ruin your posts’.

Ava: Okay, first question. Why did you start this profession, of causing others to be unable to think of what to write or how to proceed with writing?

MWB: *Smirks* Since I was a young child, I have been very fond of writing. But there never was a challenge for me. Before I existed, everything was easy. I wanted to make writing an adventure-a journey!

Ava: Well that’s not the case. Because of you *Points at him accusingly* Many people who could have become excellent writers, have begun to form a hatred to writing!

 MWB: …
Ava: Yeah, Big mistake Mr.!
MWB: Well… I’m not sorry, it’s their problem that they decided to despise writing.
Ava: *Glares* Okay, next question. What do you like to do in your free time?
MWB: Ruin writer’s progress, Make them start over, cause others to be unable to think of what to write or how to proceed with writing.

Ava: Besides that.
MWB: I like to critique books, and laugh at how the authors took me so seriously.  They didn’t have to change the whole storyline.*laughs*
Ava: What! You did all of that?
MWB: YUP…
Ava: Why?
MWB: Did I tell you that I made Jane Austen rename several of her books?
Ava: No… WAit! You made her rename them!
MWB: Yes Ma’am.
Ava…wOw…
MWB: *winks* Wow indeed.
Ava: Mkay. Next question, Cats or Dogs?
MWB: Cats
Ava: Fruits or Veggies?
MWB: Fruits
Ava: Writing or Blogging.
MWB: Writers, they listen to everything. *Chuckles*
Ava: Money or Fame?
MWB: Money. I’m already famous, just sayin’
Ava: I see *slightly smiles* Rice or Noodles
MWB: Rice
Ava: Okay last question, Pusheen or Micky Mouse?
MWB: PUSHEEEEN! Pusheen is AWESOMENESS.
Ava: I have to admit… I AGREE WITH YOU!! PUSHEN IS BOSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!
c6009a824f47fa7263df7e65736319cf.gif
Ava: Awwwww, how sweet. Pusheen says thank you.
Pusheen: Can you interview me?
Ava: SUREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!
Ava: Well Mr. Writer’s Block, that’s all for today!
MWB: Awww, already? Well thanks for the interview, I really enjoyed it.
Ava: I’m glad you did!
MWB: *Leaves post*
Well wasn’t that swell? I’m so glad he’s gone! No offense, I’m just worried he may randomly sneak into one of my post’s.
I hope you guys enjoyed!

Why planning doesn’t work

Why Planning.png

I remember staring at a piece of paper full of scribbles and notes. When will I ever start this novel? I had thought to myself. All my plans and ideas I had scribbled on the page were forgotten. So I clicked the button that said: Word 2013 and started typing about my random story characters. I ended up writing a nice short story. That was the first time I realized that planning doesn’t always work.

when you are writing a story, you need to have a plan. But when you over plan, the story process becomes more of a chore. For me, writing is harder when I plan and it’s easier when I come up with an idea and start writing.

Here are some alternatives to planning

Talk to your characters

Have you ever talked to your story characters? I have many times. When I talk to my character, I learn more about her/him. I imagine I’m the friend and they are having a normal conversation. It’s easy and fun to talk to them.

Write random stories about your characters

When writing, you don’t have to always stick with the story. Open up a new page and write a mini story about your character, and how the character handles a certain situation. Then, if you liked the story you can try to add it into you book.

Experiment with other ideas

When writing, try knew things with you charcters. Interveiw your character. Ask them questions. That will help you learn more about them, trust me, it helps.

I hope these tips help!
