The 3 bookish things tag (me rambling about books, authors and other stuff bibliophiles talk about)

Copy of why hello there!

Welcome back to my itsy-bitsy corner of the web! I really wanted to write something bookish today but had no idea what to write about, so I stumbled across this amazing tag by one of the most legendary books bloggers/ authors, @paperfury (aka C.G Drews) Its called the 3 bookish things tag, and basically its a tag where you write three bookish answers to a bunch of different bookish questions!

Speaking of bookishness (is that even a word? XD) I really have missed being a book blogger, as much as I love making lifestyle posts I think I’m going to go back to being a book blogger! The book community is so fun and its a lot more enjoyable for me, I feel happier when I write bookish posts and I don’t feel like I’m comparing myself to others as much. What do you guys prefer to see on my blog?

Anyways, enough of my rambling let’s start the tag!

3 Favorite Authors

This is honestly a really hard question. There are so many amazing authors and I find new ones every day, but I guess my 3 all-time favorites are;

Marissa Meyer: Because the worlds and the characters she crafts are amazing. also, the lunar chronicles are just too amazing

Leigh Burdugo: I have one word for you (actually three words) SIX OF CROWS! I also love how all of her books have diverse characters! Its really hard to find interesting books that represent lots of different races, and Leigh nails that.

Marie Lu: because WARCROSS IS AMAZINGLY AWESOME (wildcard kind of let me down though)

3 Weirdest things used as a Bookmark

To be honest I don’t use bookmarks often because I usually read a book in one stand, meaning I spend the whole day reading a book which probably is very unhealthy but sometimes it’s worth it! (I read the whole To all the boys I loved before series in like three hours with no breaks)

Marker/pen/paper: I use these the most because I always have one on me.

Another book: surprisingly it works pretty well!

Sock: I have no comment XD

3 Series Binged

Lunar Chronicles: When I found out about this series, almost all the books were out already, so it was super easy to binge read. This series is honestly so amazing.

Shadow and Bone: These books surprisingly took longer to read than The Lunar chronicles, despite the books were a bit shorter.

To all the Boys I loved before: Like I mentioned before I read all the three books in less than 4 hours. The series is such a page-turner and probably one of the first ya “Romance” Series I actually finished.

3 Characters YOU LOVE

So I don’t know if she meant, characters you ship yourself with or characters you love (like platonically) SO I’m just gonna list both.

Carswell Thorne-The Lunar Chronicles: I’m sure we all are in love with him, let me just say that.

Kaz Brekker- Six of Crows: Again, who isn’t in love with him

Anne Shirley-Anne of Green Gables: Anne has always been one of my favorite characters! She is clever, fun and so imaginative. I can relate to her so much.

3 Unpopular Bookish Opinions

Before I share these I just want to beg you to please not come and kill me. I am not trying to offend anyone, these are just my thoughts.

Harry Potter seems overrated: I feel like almost every bookish person loves this series and I personally don’t get the huge appeal. (please don’t hurt me)

I feel like POC aren’t represented a lot: Now I know there are plenty of great books with POC, but I feel like the types of genres I like to read don’t represent them enough. Or like the only books with them in it that get so popular are the books like “The Hate You Give.” I have a hard time finding cute, fluffy ya books that feature POC, that don’t overly focus on race.

Too much cursing in books is kind of annoying: I find it really annoying when I’m reading a book and the characters curse/ cuss so much. For some characters, Its a part of their voice, or their talking style, and I guess that’s okay. But its really annoying when there are 5 cuss words on each page. Is that really how normal teens talk all the time?

3 Favorite Book Covers

in which ava is too lazy to rebel and collect pictures of all the book covers she loves

Dance of Thieves (Dance of Thieves, #1)   The Tea Dragon Society Cress (The Lunar Chronicles, #3)

lets get started to (1)

Thanks for reading this post! I tag anyone who needs something to blog about, or is obsessed with bookish stuff like I am! What are your Top Three go-to reads? What are some books that are on your TBR List? Do you like my bookish posts?

The Schuyler Sisters: An underrated female character

This is a hard one actually… I think Winter from the lunar chronicles. I don’t think her story is developed enough for people to understand her character but she is really sweet and I think a lot of people forget about her.Related image

My Shot: A character that goes after what they want and doesn’t let anyone stop them

For this, I am choosing Jonas from the giver. He leaves his ‘safe’ world to save himself and his baby brother(ish) from the fake community

When the Sky Fell on Splendor Blog Tour feat. mood boards and squad goals

Copy of why hello there!

Welcome to my itsy-bitsy corner of the web! I am super excited because I am apart of penguin teen’s; When the Sky Fell on Splendor Blog Tour! I cannot wait to share this thrilling and awesome book with you all!lets get started

When the Sky Fell on Splendor

Author: Emily Henry

Publisher: Penguin Teen

Publication Date: March 12th, 2019

Rating:Related imageRelated imageRelated imageRelated image

Almost everyone in the small town of Splendor, Ohio, was affected when the local steel mill exploded. If you weren’t a casualty of the accident yourself, chances are a loved one was. That’s the case for seventeen-year-old Franny, who, five years after the explosion, still has to stand by and do nothing as her brother lies in a coma.

In the wake of the tragedy, Franny found solace in a group of friends whose experiences mirrored her own. The group calls themselves The Ordinary, and they spend their free time investigating local ghost stories and legends, filming their exploits for their small following of YouTube fans. It’s silly, it’s fun, and it keeps them from dwelling on the sadness that surrounds them.

Until one evening, when the strange and dangerous thing they film isn’t fiction–it’s a bright light, something massive hurdling toward them from the sky. And when it crashes and the teens go to investigate…everything changes.

The Review

disclaimer: I received a physical copy from the publishers for free. This has in no way influenced my review. Everything that I am stating is my honest opinion.

First of all CAN, WE TALK ABOUT THE COVER? It is so gorgeous! I love how the alien space ship is coming down and there are all the stars on it. spoiler alert; there are no alien spaceships that actually come down. But it is still a really pretty cover.

I really liked this book! The quirky characters, the retro feel, and ALL THOSE BIKES. I thought it was so cute the way all the characters are like one big family.

Before we get further into the review I probably should introduce you to the amazingly weird and unique characters that make up the ordinary.

The ordinary is the characters kinda of this club where they make fake and not so good quality youtube videos about their adventures. It distracts them from there everyday struggles and the depressing thoughts of their past.

meet the fam

Related image Franny: Franny is our young, narrator and kiddo of the group. She is 17 but I feel like she could be 13. I personally didn’t find her as interesting as the other characters and she seemed to have a little less depth than some of the other characters.

Related image Arthur. Arthur is Franny’s older brother. I really loved Arthurs dreamy personality and I could really relate to the way he bounced back and forth with current obsessions because I kind of do that too.

Related image Levi: Levi is the camera guy that films all the videos. He’s rich and cool and an okay character I guess.

Related image Sofia: She’s like the mom of the group. Very sensible and rational. I love how she is super smart and sporty at the same time.

Related imageRemy: Remy is a smol boy with stress issues and worries about Franny because he loves her. He has constant nightmares (poor boy) and His dad is also a sheriff and doesn’t always listen or pay attention to him.

Related imageNick: Nick Has a small (okay BIG) Lying issue and sometimes steals things. (what a bad boy XD) He also has to work full time to support his mentally ill mother.

What I loved the most about these friends is that they probably never would have ever thought of becoming friends, but grief brought them together.

They were the Ordinaries, kids who were alone in their sorrow after a Mill accident that killed someone close to them. But, then they all met and somehow became this quirky little family. I just thought that was really sweet.

my not so favorite things

Even though I really enjoyed this book there were a few things I personally didn’t like about it.

Related image There were too many characters.

When I first started reading this it was a little confusing remembering who was who. I personally think six characters is a little too many main characters. I think the book might’ve been a better read for me if there were only four characters. (Franny, Remy, Sofia, and Arthur) After getting used to the characters I could understand it more, but It was a little hard to keep track of.

Related image Some parts were very confusing.

At some parts of the book, I didn’t really know what was going on and felt very confused. It took me a while to understand most of what was happening and even now there are still a few things I didn’t understand.

Related image The ending

The ending was kind of confusing for me and I didn’t really know what was going on and what happened. Even after rereading the end, I still was slightly confused.

cropped-tobereadnova.png

my favorite things

Related imageThe quirky characters.

Even though the number of characters was slightly overwhelming, I really liked how different there personalities were, and how they all had this sort of depth to them. I also love how they became friends while struggling through grief and how they all supported each other in their own different ways.

Related imageThe retro kiddo feel.

This book feels like it was set in the 90s and the characters are just kiddos riding bikes, using walkie talkies and finding suspicious things and I think that is just really adorable.

Related imagethe setting

fields and mysterious houses are really cool

Related imageThe unique plot

I recently haven’t seen a lot of YA Sci-Fi books published in a while and I think this is a really great one.

Related imageThe Cover

the cover is really pretty and I love it so much! Even though it is slightly misleading because no alien spaceship falls down it is really great.

Final Thoughts

This was an amazing and unique book and I am so happy that I got a chance to read it!

my top five favorite female book characters

Copy of why hello there!

Happy international women’s day! If you are a girl then YOU GO! Welcome to my itsy-bitsy corner of the web!

In honor of international women’s day, I am going to be sharing some of my favorite female book characters! It was quite hard to narrow them all down to five, but i am happy with my choices!

lets get started

1. Jane Eyre

Jane Eyre is the intelligent and witty heroine featured in Charlotte Bronte’s; Jane Eyre.

I love Jane so much! She is such an incredible character and this is why. She was tough, smart and quite independent, but what shocked me was how she held her tongue. Jane Eyre is set in an era where women were considered less than men. Women were not allowed to do many things that we women can do now. What I loved about Jane was how she knew how to be bold and still respectful. She could tell any man off with class, which is really cool.

Here are some examples of her witty remarks.

“I would always rather be happy than dignified.”

“’I am not an angel,’ I asserted; ‘and I will not be one till I die: I will be myself.”

“I am no bird, and no net ensnares me; I am a free human being with an independent will.”

2. Anne Shirley

Anne Shirly is the bright and spunky kindred spirit from Anne of Green Gables.

Anne has always been one of my favorite characters! She is clever, fun and so imaginative. I can relate to her so much. Here are some of my favorite quotes from her books.

“Kindred spirits are not so scarce as I used to think. It’s splendid to find out there are so many of them in the world.”

she is so adorable and just a sweet smol character.

“I’m so glad I live in a world where there are Octobers.”

“People laugh at me because I use big words. But if you have big ideas, you have to use big words to express them, haven’t you?”

YES ANNE THAT IS SO TRUE haha

3.Scout Finch

Scout ( Jean Lousie) Is the amazing narrator of To Kill a Mockingbird. She is such a bright young girl and its really cool seeing the setting and era through her eyes. Scout is bold and such an interesting character. She is intelligent and, by the standards of her time and place, a tomboy. Scout has a combative streak and a basic faith in the goodness of the people in her community. As the novel progresses, this faith is tested by the hatred and prejudice that emerge during Tom Robinson’s trial. Scout eventually develops a more grown-up perspective that enables her to appreciate human goodness without ignoring human evil. Here are some of scouts best quotes:

Atticus had used every tool available to free men to save Tom Robinson, but in the secret courts of men’s hearts Atticus had no case. Tom was a dead man the minute Mayella Ewell opened her mouth and screamed.

4. Cress

Cress is the adorable damsel in distress from the lunar chronicles who is waiting for her prince in shining armor to save her. CRESS IS SO PRECIOUS. I love cress, because sometimes in really good books it is hard to see girly girls represented fairly. In many books, I read the heroine is usually a tomboyish, bold girl who doesn’t want love. But cress is the opposite. Cress is a coding genius that loves opera and romance. AND SHE IS SUCH A CUTE CHARACTER! I really love her sooo much! Later in the book, Cress learns the truth about love and she lives happily ever after with her dashing hero until the next book comes and there’s a whole war. 😉

quotes:

“Maybe there isn’t such a thing as fate. Maybe it’s just the opportunities we’re given, and what we do with them. I’m beginning to think that may be great, epic romances don’t just happen. We have to make them ourselves.”

5. Jo March

Jo is the bright, aspiring writer in Little Women. is based on Louisa May Alcott herself, which makes the story semi-autobiographical. Jo has a temper and a quick tongue, although she works hard to control both. She is a tomboy and reacts with impatience to the many limitations placed on women and girls. She hates romance in her real life and wants nothing more than to hold her family together.

Quotes:

“I like good strong words that mean something…”

“I’ll try and be what he loves to call me, ‘a little woman,’ and not be rough and wild, but do my duty here instead of wanting to be somewhere else,”

“I want to do something splendid before I go into my castle, something heroic or wonderful that won’t be forgotten after I’m dead. I don’t know what, but I’m on the watch for it, and mean to astonish you all someday. I think I shall write books, and get rich and famous, that would suit me, so that is my favorite dream.”

recapp

I love books, and I love these amazing and inspiring female characters! I hope you all enjoyed this post!
