my lady jane-book review

tobereadNova

My Lady Jane

genre: Fantasy, Humor, Historical Fiction, Fractured retelling?

rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ 1/5

“Very funny, my lady. And that reminds me”

—he pointed a finger at her—

“no horse jokes.”

He was making it too easy.

“Ah, my lord, why the long face?”
“That’s it!”

Being Queen can’t be that bad right? Well, it is for sixteen-year-old Lady Jane Grey. Jane prefers books over romance, and would rather be reading then kissing her groom. But little does she know that her groom is a horse. Yes, a horse. And her cousin- the king- is dying and giving the throne to her. Join Jane, her horse and her king on a humorous quest in a medieval world full of shapeshifting people.

This was probably the funniest book I’ve ever read.

The characters, the plot, EVERYTHING was extraordinarily creative and quite hilarious.

This book is the “true story” of Lady Jane in the Tudor time period. England is divided between Verities and Eðians. Eðians can shapeshift into animals, while Verities cannot and there has been a lot of tension and war between these two. 16-year-old King Edward is dying and gets his cousin, Lady Jane, married to a stranger to secure the throne and keep peace in England. Little do they know that there are people out there plotting against Edward and trying to steal the throne for themselves.

Characters

Edward-the king. Edward is a dying sixteen-year-old king. He would rather be planning his first kiss then who to inherit his crown. I kinda like him, but, uh *cough* He’s not really my favorite. But still has an interesting character design.

Lady Jane is pretty much all of us bookish nerds. She LOVES books and treats them like her children and would rather read a book at her own wedding. I love her feistiness and she IS SO ADORABLEEEE. o my GOODNESS I LOVE HER SO MUCH. She has such a cute character design and she’s so relatable!

Gifford Dudly my horse boi. *squealing* SO GIFFORD (he prefers G) IS AN ARTSY POETIC SWEET SMOL BOY THAT I LOVE SO MUCH. HEEEEEEEELP. he writes adorable little poems. ILYSM G! he’s sad and needs hugs because his dad is mean (FITE GIFFORDS’ DAD) he spends his days in the fields as a horse and stays up at night writing sonnets as a human. please give him cookies and journals so he can keep writing poems

romance

(the whole point of the book)

Jane and G are so cute. At first, they kinda hate each other (because they were forced to marry each other) BUt as the story develops so does there love.  AWWWWWWWWWWW

my favorite quotes

( because there are so many beautiful ones)

“I love you more than I love books.”

(*claps loudly, tears dripping down my face*)

“On everyone’s lap rested a book. Any book. In case the wedding got boring.”

“Because he was English and that’s what the English do under stress: they drink tea.”

“I’m so hungry I could eat a horse. Oh. Sorry, G. Not you, of course.”

The authors are amazing IM CRYING EVERYTHING IS JUST so funny! I had loud outbursts of laughter while reading.

what I didn’t like

*DUN DUN DUNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN*

The story was somewhat confusing, and I had to reread certain parts over to understand it.

I didn’t like Edward that much. (IM SORRY). He just kind of…. annoyed me… (again IM SORRY) He was very sexist and boooooooooooriiiiiiiiiing (sorry and sorryyyyy)

what I did like

I loved the world the authors built. I loved how the world was created and like the cool shapeshifting part.

Jane and G. (so ship worthy! should we call it gane?) They were so cute and a perfect couple. Their character designs were amazing and I love G SO MUCH (he’s my smol poetic bean)

overall

This is a funny and great read. If you are a fan of fantasy, historical fiction, retellings or comedy then this book is for you! I recommend it to anyone who likes a fun clean read!

7 fun things to send to your penpal

why hello there!

I have recently gotten into the hobby of penpaling. I was supposed to have only three, but now I have *ahem* seven.

Having a penpal (or more) Is an amazing way to make new friends and meet new people and learn about others lifestyles and cultures. Penpaling is also great for people that want to disconnect from online and go back to paper. Plus if you have really generous penpals you might even get goodies. (my favorite part) But don’t get your hopes up xD

So in today’s post, I will share with you guys a few things you can send to your penpals!

If you are looking for a penpal and have nowhere to look you can go to this awesome (and safe website) called globalpenfriends. Or you can comment down below that your interested and maybe someone else will reply and ask to be your penpal.

For right now I am closed for new penpals because I already have way tooo many. But I am open to being e-pals if you want.

But now, let’s get on to the post.

The first and most basic thing to put in your penpal letter is a letter.

Even if you only send a letter, you can jazz it up and make it cute and super special! Doodle, add quotes and use fancy fonts!

2. Send washi tape.

Washi tape is cute and adorable, and if your penpal is a crafty artsy person I am sure they would appreciate some. You can wrap it around a stick, tag or piece of paper.

3. Art

Art pieces are really cute and simple. Draw something your penpal loves like ducks or sunflowers.

4. Scraps

When it comes to penpaling, sending cute scraps of paper or extra washi and stuff Is great! You can use scraps to make collages and if your penpal is creative they will probably find a way to use it.

5. Candy, Tea, Snacks

Packaged objects like tea and candy are great and fun to send to your penpal. I always send my penpals tea bags so they can drink it while reading my letters!

6. envelope art

Envelopes can be transformed into beautiful masterpieces. I try and usually fail, but there are some really pretty things you can do!

7. Things your pen pals have mentioned

Has your penpal mentioned that they wanted pins? Maybe you can make one for them. Make thinks based on your penpals personality or things they like and want.

I hope this post helped! Thanks for reading!

to be read// January 2019

why hello there!

Welcome back to my itsy-bitsy corner of the web. And if you are new here, WELCOME! I recommend that you check out my about page and leave a comment in the guestbook 😀

January is here! THAT MEANS MORE TIME TO READ BOOKS! YAYY!

For my Goodreads challenge this year, I plan to read 150 books. This is the first time I am going to try to be more consistent with Goodreads (because it is kind of confusing for me xD)

So I have to read around 12 to 13 books per month, which I already kind of do!

So I decided to make a to-be-read post for all the books I am excited about reading!

(This post does have a few affiliate links and I get a small commission If you buy from the link or click them. There is no additional cost to you! :D)

moving on yo

The first book (series) I am looking forward to rereading is the mysterious Benedict society. It was such a great series and I really want to read it again

Next, I really want to read The Bronte Plot.

It looks really interesting! I kinda already started reading it. BRONTE+ BOOK LOVERS + bookish romance = my bibliophile dream.

Honestly, I am going to read all of Katherine Reay’s books. I already am in love with her writing style and her stories and characters are crafted so well.

The next book I cannot wait to read is All for One.

So First of all, This book is about the one and only Alexander Hamilton and Eliza. Second of all Melissa’s writing style is just amazing. I CANNOT WAIT TO READ IT!

So yeah, That sums up this months TBR! Thanks for reading!
